Bus to the MOON!

J&V Coaches have generously offered to run the bendy bus from Kirkwall to the MOON, and another bus from Houton to the MOON, on Saturdays 8th and 15th September. You could have a trip to the MOON!

The deadlines for registering your interest in the free buses are… 

Tuesday 4th September for buses on 8th September and Sunday 9th for the buses on the 15th.

This applies to both buses from Kirkwall meeting North Isles ferries, and the buses from Houton meeting the South Isles ferry. 

Orphir folk are welcome to register for the Houton bus to fill up any spaces, after priority is given to the Isles folk. The buses are available to folk from Shapinsay and North Ronaldsay, too if you can guarantee to get the bus stand at by 11:15 on those days – you’ll still need to contact us to get a voucher.

North Isles
  • Do you want to see the MOON?
  • Do you live on Westray, Papa Westray, Eday, North Ronaldsay, Sanday, Stronsay or Shapinsay?
  • Do you want a free ride on the MOON bus?
  • Are you are a child who can bring a responsible adult with you?
  • Can you get to the Old Bus Station across from LIDL by 11:15 on Saturday 8th or 15th?

If you answered YES to all these questions, please email NorthIslesBus@skyranMOON.com and tell us…

  • The name(s) and age(s) of all in your group who want a bus trip to the MOON
  • Your address – we’ll send your bus voucher(s) to you at home
  • The date you will come – either 8 September or 15 September
  • The SUBJECT LINE of your email should be ‘North Isles Bus – 8 September’ or ‘North Isles Bus – 15 September’ – your voucher will apply only to the date you tell us. NB if you don’t use the right subject in your email we may not see it.

The MOON bus will leave Kirkwall around 11:15am from the car park opposite LIDL in Kirkwall. The Orkney Ferries we are aiming to meet are:

DEPART 0830 Eday 0920 Stronsay – ARRIVE Kirkwall 1055 DEPART 1600
DEPART 0845 Westray – ARRIVE Kirkwall 1025 DEPART 1620
DEPART 0915 Sanday – ARRIVE Kirkwall 1040 DEPART 1640

Priority will be given to children travelling from the North Isles – any spare space will be allocated to Kirkwall children on a first-come-first-served basis.

South Isles & Houton
  • Do you want to see the MOON?
  • Do you live in Longhope, Lyness or Flotta? Or in Orphir, somewhere near Houton?
  • Do you want a free ride on the MOON bus?
  • Are you are a child who can bring a responsible adult with you?
  • Can you get to the bus stand at Houton by ferry at 11:30 on Saturday 8 or 15 September?

  • The name(s) and age(s) of all in your group who want a bus trip to the MOON
  • Your address – we’ll send your bus voucher(s) to you at home
  • The date you will come – either 8 September or 15 September
  • Please make the ‘subject’ of your email ‘South Isles Bus – 8 September’ or ‘South Isles Bus – 15 September’ – your voucher will apply only to the date you tell us. NB if you don’t use the right subject in your email we may not see it.

The buses will leave from Houton when the ferry arrives. The Orkney Ferries  boat we are aiming to meet is:

DEPART 1030 Lyness, 1055 Flotta  ARRIVE HOUTON 1130 DEPART 1615

Priority will be given to children travelling from the South Isles – any spare space will be allocated to Orphir children on a first-come-first-served basis.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Seats on the buses are – obviously – limited. All seats will be allocated in order of receipt of applications and, when all seats are allocated, no further applications will be accepted. If there aren’t enough people to fill the bendy bus, we may have to use a smaller one!

Vouchers for the buses will be posted to your home address for you to bring with you. You won’t be able to ride on the bus without your personal voucher(s).

If the bus breaks down or cannot run for any reason, we cannot guarantee you a seat on a Stagecoach bus and we cannot reimburse you for any extra fares or costs incurred. We hope there are no problems but if there are, we reserve the right not to pay expenses for any failures or problems with this free service.
